Elikya, the newest mother bonobo at Great Ape Trust, turned 13 on June 28. She gave birth to a son, Teco, on June 1. The caretakers and scientists say both are doing very well. Elikya came to Great Ape Trust in spring of 2005 from the Language Research Center at Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Al Setka says:

Thanks Joann for your interest. The scientists, staff and other bonobos have been careful to give Elikya as much privacy as she and Teco have wanted. From my understanding, baby, mother and the rest of the bonobos are adjusting wonderfully and we hope to capture some new photos and video soon to share with everyone.
