Great Ape Trust of Iowa is a certified member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). AZA has a conservation endowment that funds peer-reviewed conservation-useful research and conservation action by staff members and collaborators of AZA organizations. This endowment has provided $2,800,000 to 177 projects since its founding in 1991.

The Trust contributed to the AZA Conservation Endowment Fund in 2005.
