A muzungu in Rwanda
Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 12:57am

It happens in every village we drive through, every road we walk down and every crowd we step into. Muzungu – the Rwandan term for white person – is heard by each of us hundreds of time each day. It’s shouted with enthusiasm by the children and almost always accompanied with a smile. Toss in the fact we’re shooting photos and videotape and we quickly become a spectacle worth viewing. A friendly wave and a returning smile makes for some pretty simple citizen diplomacy.
