One of the components of Great Ape Trust’s four-part mission is “to advance the conservation of great apes.” Over the past several years, Great Ape Trust has supported dozens of important and successful grassroots conservation efforts throughout the world. The Trust awarded nearly $84,000 in grants in 2008 and almost $381,300 since 2004.
As Great Ape Trust moves forward with its conservation strategy, the primary focus of our efforts will be directed to two major initiatives: The Ketambe Research Center in northern Sumatra and the Gishwati Area Conservation Program in Rwanda. When these efforts are combined with the grassroots initiatives, Great Ape Trust has contributed more than $540,000 in conservation efforts.
