Inside The Walt Disney World Resort Is More Than Just Magic There Is Heart

Inside The Walt Disney World Resort Is More Than Just Magic There Is Heart

One of the most awe-inspiring attractions at Disney's Animal Kingdom isn't a new thrill ride, restaurant or the experience of seeing your favorite animal up close. It usually isn't advertised that the park is home to many endangered species brought here to receive another chance to thrive, including several species of primates, a group that includes monkeys and apes. Several primates cared for at the park appear at different levels of severity on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List of Threatened Species, which ranks animal population trends and any threats a population faces, such as deforestation or the pet trade. The Angolan colobus monkey is listed as "least concern;" the ring-tailed lemur is "threatened;" the mandrill and collared lemur are "vulnerable;" and the siamang and white-cheeked gibbon are categorized as "endangered." Animals most at risk at the park are the cotton-top tamarin and the Western lowland…

Gorilla: Closest Relative of Humans

Gorilla: Closest Relative of Humans

Gorillas are the largest species amongst all primates. They are ground dwelling chiefly herbivorous mammals inhabiting the forests of central Africa. They are placed in two species and four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas bears 95-99% similarity with humans and is believed to be very close to humans just after two species of chimpanzees. They are found in the tropical and subtropical forests in Africa. The Mountain Gorilla dwells in Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2,200-4,300 metres. The lowland gorillas inhabit the dense forests and lowland swamps. They have derived their name from a Greek word. [embed]http://www.slideshare.net/KendallBeard/animals-american-dream[/embed] The closest relatives of gorillas are humans and chimpanzees. All these three share the same family Hominidae and same ancestor that evolved around 7 million years ago. Human genome differs only 1.6% from that of the gorilla's genome. At present three species of…

Information Regarding The Great Apes

Great apes, gorillas appear to have evolved from smaller apes virtually twenty million living ago. They are alienated variously into species and subspecies, though four discreet subspecies appear to be rather decided leading: Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla Beringei), Cross River Gorilla (Gorilla Diehli), Western Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla) and Eastern Lowland Gorilla (Gorilla Beringei Graueri). Physical skin diverged with subspecies with Mountain Gorillas being the main and hairiest of the four. They also are the darkest in color. Lowland Gorillas have longer arms and lighter coloration, being in the span of coffee to hoary in task of the Western Lowland Gorilla. Males of the species are superior with influence averaging around four hundred pounds, though superior individuals of over five hundred pounds have been recorded in the squally and more regularly in custody. Height is between five and a half to six feet. Females are virtually halves that range with a common…
